Managing money as a student feels chaotic.
One day it’s ₹10 on a toffee, the next it’s a random SIP deduction you forgot about. I got tired of juggling SMS alerts, manual notes, and scattered apps — so I built Zenin.
Most apps throw charts at you. But real financial control starts with awareness. That’s why Zenin’s first goal was to just track everything, no clutter.
What is Zenin?
Zenin is a personal finance tracking app that logs every transaction — automatically and manually — so you always know where your money’s going.

Why I built it
This wasn’t a “hackathon project.” I built it because I needed it.
- I wanted an app that could parse bank SMS and auto-log expenses
- I needed manual input support for offline or cash transactions
- I wanted simple spending insights without ads or bloat
- And I wanted it to feel personal — dark theme, clean UI, built for India
Tech Stack
- Frontend: React Native
- Backend/Storage: Firebase
- Other: Headless JS for background SMS parsing, Biometric Auth, Offline Support (in progress)
Core Features
- Auto-logs spending via SMS parsing (bank/SMS alerts)
- Manual entry for all transactions (₹5 or ₹50,000 — doesn’t matter)
- Spending breakdowns and basic analytics
- Fast, local-first experience (no unnecessary sync delays)
- Built with scalability and privacy in mind
Challenges & Learnings
- Parsing SMS reliably is tougher than it sounds — formats vary wildly
- Handling permissions + background tasks in React Native needs care
- Firebase makes auth easy, but needs custom structuring for efficiency
- Most importantly: UX matters more than raw features
- What’s Next?
- Deal/coupon integration (based on spending habits)
- Investment/saving nudges
- Cross-device sync with smart summaries
This is just version 1. But already, Zenin has helped me build better spending habits. That’s a win.
