How to Build a Shot-by-Shot Storyboard for AI-Generated Videos

Creating an AI video is not simply a matter of writing one long prompt and pressing “generate.” When a project includes several scenes, actions, characters, and transitions, it can quickly become difficult to control.

A storyboard solves this problem by dividing an idea into individual shots. Before generating anything, creators can decide what each shot needs to communicate, how the subject should move, and which visual details must remain consistent.

The final state of one shot should support the starting state of the next.

Step 6: Write a Separate Prompt for Each Shot

Avoid using one large prompt for the complete video. Give every shot a focused instruction.

A practical structure is:

Subject + environment + action + framing + camera movement + lighting + duration + continuity rules

This structure clearly separates the main visual variables.

The prompt does not need to describe every object in the room. It should prioritize the information required for that particular shot.

The following template can be copied for each shot.

Review the Storyboard Before Generating

Before producing the clips, read through the storyboard as if the video already existed.

  • Is the main action simple enough to understand?
  • Does the camera movement support the story?

Generate a Low-Cost Draft First

The first generation does not need to be the final version.

  • Action timing
  • Transition logic
  • Overall pacing

Once the structure works, improve the lighting, detail, motion, and final presentation.

This approach prevents creators from spending too much time refining a visually impressive shot that does not fit the finished video.

Revise One Shot at a Time

If one shot fails, avoid changing the entire storyboard.

Identify the specific problem:

  • If the action is unclear, simplify the movement.
  • If the product changes, strengthen its fixed description.
  • If the composition drifts, reduce camera movement.
  • If the transition feels abrupt, revise the ending frame.

After revising the shot, compare it with the previous version and keep the rest of the sequence unchanged.

This makes it easier to determine which adjustment improved the result.
