You may need AI to draft a paragraph, create an illustration and read the result aloud. You do not need to do all three at the same instant.

OGAD (Off Grid AI Desktop) brings those local model types into one app. On a Mac, you can move through the jobs in sequence and unload a model when you need its memory for the next task. This gives you a practical way to try more than text chat without treating every model as a permanent background process.

The steps below use a Mac. OGAD beta108 also includes local speech output on Windows through its English (US and UK) voices. Prepare the selected voice before offline use. This Windows path does not provide the full multilingual speech support described in the Mac guide.

Turn one idea into three useful outputs

Consider a short presentation. Use a text model to draft the opening, an image model to create a background illustration, and a speech model to hear whether the opening sounds natural.

Each model has a separate job. You can finish and save one result before starting the next. The saved paragraph or image remains useful when its generating model is no longer in memory.

Start with small text and image model choices suited to the Mac's RAM. In Models, check the size and memory guidance. A model that cannot fit by itself will not become viable just because you run the tasks in sequence.

Set up a small first project

  1. Download a local text model that fits your Mac.
  2. In Chat, ask for a short presentation opening. Review and keep the text.
  3. In Models, download and select a local image model that fits the machine. In Chat, open the + composer menu, choose Generate image, and describe one simple illustration.
  4. Follow the Mac speech setup guide: choose a local voice in Settings → Voice, wait until it is ready, then play a completed reply. Start with one short paragraph.
  5. Keep the results you want before expanding the task.

Local models need an initial download. After the required files are present, these local requests can run without internet. Chat, image generation and the supported Mac speech runtime are core capabilities; Pro capture is not required for this workflow.

Free memory without deleting the download

The model picker includes Unload for a loaded model type. It releases that model from memory. It does not mean you must download its files again; the model can load on the next use.

Use this when a model is no longer needed and you want to give the next task more room. Expect a load delay when you return to it. Model switching is a resource trade-off, not a guarantee that every request starts instantly.

For long text chats, a smaller Context window can also reduce memory pressure. For images, begin with a modest supported image size and one output. Keep other heavy applications closed during the first trial.

Know which limit you have reached

If the model will not load even with other work closed, use a smaller compatible model. If it loads but the task takes too long, simplify the request and compare another model on the same task. Do not confuse a successful download with a model that fits comfortably in working RAM.

The controls described here are available in OGAD 0.0.51.

Use a small presentation as a complete first test

Keep the first project to one slide. Ask the text model:

Write a 70-word opening for a presentation about a community garden. Explain the purpose and invite volunteers. Do not invent a location, date or attendance figure.

Check the text and save the version you want. Then unload the text model if you need its memory and generate one illustration: “A simple illustration of raised garden beds and gardening tools, no text, no logos.” Use an image size supported by your selected model.

Finally, return to the approved paragraph and play it with a prepared local voice. Listen for awkward sentences and names that need a pronunciation check. The spoken version is a review aid; it does not automatically correct the written draft.

You now have three outputs from one idea, produced in stages. If an image attempt fails, the saved paragraph still exists. You do not have to repeat every successful stage when the next model cannot load.

Decide what to change after a failure

Where the workflow stops Useful next step
Text model will not load Try a smaller model or shorter context
Image generation runs out of memory Unload unused models and lower the supported image size
A returned model takes time to start Allow for a fresh load after unloading
Spoken output is unavailable Check the Mac voice setup and required files

Work through one row at a time. Deleting model files frees disk space; unloading releases working memory. They solve different problems. Keep the downloads you still use, and avoid repeatedly downloading a model when the real problem is its memory requirement.

Try the full idea on your own Mac

Download OGAD, draft one short passage, create one illustration and listen to one paragraph. Build the workflow around the memory you have.
