Building an AI VTuber Maker Workflow in PixAI Studio: From OC to First Stream

I've spent way more time designing my OC than actually seeing her do anything. So I ran a small experiment: what would it take to turn her into a working VTuber concept?

I opened PixAI Studio, set the model to Tsubaki.3, and used it as an AI VTuber maker to produce a small visual asset package instead of a single static portrait: official profile visuals, a Starting Soon screen for a first stream, and a starter kit combining both.

Neither workflow was built from scratch. PixAI Studio already ships templates for this exact use case, so the test came down to something simpler: clone the workflow, swap in a character reference, and check whether the identity survives the swap.

Here's the build, step by step.

Start with One OC and a Simple VTuber Concept

Meet Nyx.

Her design comes down to four fixed traits: deep indigo hair with a silver-white streak, pale lavender eyes, a crescent moon hair clip, and an indigo-and-silver outfit with small star accents. I kept the trait list short on purpose. Fewer identity markers makes it easier to check later whether a workflow actually preserved the character, rather than just carrying over a color palette.

I set her up as a calm, late-night streaming persona, the kind of VTuber character creator output that could hold up in both a polished profile shoot and a low-key stream.

Before touching either template, I needed one stable reference image to anchor the rest of the build. I generated Nyx directly in PixAI Studio on Tsubaki.3, keeping the prompt locked to the traits that had to carry through everything downstream: indigo hair, silver-white streak, lavender eyes, moon clip, indigo-and-silver outfit.

The first generation was close but not tight enough. The eyes read as washed out, and the moon and star details didn't have enough contrast. Rather than reworking the concept, I tightened the prompt: a clearly visible silver-white streak, vivid lavender eyes, a visible crescent moon clip, more defined star accents.

The second pass nailed it. Every defining trait was readable at a glance, and the design stayed clean. That generation became Nyx's master reference for the rest of the build.

Critically, I reused the same reference image for both workflows instead of regenerating Nyx per template. Official Debut and Good Morning, 8,000 Viewers both pulled from the identical source image. That controlled for one variable: whether the templates preserve identity across contexts, rather than just outputting two characters that happen to share a palette.

Step 1: Create VTuber Profile Visuals with "Official Debut"

For Nyx's first official asset, I skipped the blank canvas entirely. I pulled up PixAI Studio's template collection and grabbed "Official Debut," a workflow built to convert a single character image into an 8-panel ID-style profile sheet.

I cloned the workspace, replaced the template's default reference image with Nyx, and ran the generation. No prompt engineering from scratch, no node rebuilding, just a character swap and a run.

The swap itself was a two-step process. I added Nyx to the cloned canvas as an Image Node, then used the generation node's "Reference from canvas" setting to link her into the pipeline. The template's original character reference was still attached by default, so I disconnected it and left Nyx as the sole character input.

Everything else in the template stayed untouched: the deep light-blue background, the grid pattern, the 4:3 photo layout. That's the actual value proposition of an AI VTuber generator workflow like this one: the template already encodes what a profile sheet should look like, so the only remaining task is dropping in your own character.

The output held up under inspection. Every panel keeps Nyx's core identity intact: the indigo hair with its silver streak, the crescent moon clip, the lavender eyes, the star accents on the collar. Step 2: Create a Starting Soon Screen with "Good Morning, 8,000 Viewers"

For the stream-facing asset, I went back to the same template collection and pulled "Good Morning, 8,000 Viewers," a workflow scoped around a full VTuber streaming kit: standby screen, live layout, scrolling comment feed, video clips.

I only needed the first output in that chain, the static "Stream starting soon..." screen, so that's where I stopped, skipping the downstream stream-layout, comment, and video nodes entirely.

The template's default standby image already had a solid structure to build on: a live badge, two lines of Japanese standby text, a small comment box, and a progress bar. I swapped in Nyx as the reference and triggered a generation.

The first run came back as a portrait-oriented image, which wasn't the target format, so I changed the Edit node's aspect ratio to 16:9 and reran it. That produced the 1280×720 landscape screen I was actually after.

I stopped at that output rather than pushing through the rest of the template, since the Starting Soon screen was the only deliverable this build needed. The later nodes handle other parts of a full streaming setup, but none of them were required for this starter kit.

The output reads as a clear continuation of Step 1: same indigo hair and silver streak, same crescent moon clip, same lavender eyes, same cool color palette, now applied to a stream overlay context. This VTuber generator step didn't need a new character direction at all, just a new context layered onto the one already established.

Put the VTuber Starter Kit Together

With both workflows complete, I placed the two outputs side by side to check whether they actually functioned as one coherent VTuber maker package, not just two separate renders that happened to share a color scheme.

They do. The indigo hair, silver streak, crescent moon clip, and lavender eyes stay consistent between both outputs. Even the tonal register carries over cleanly. The Official Debut panels read as polished and formal, the kind of asset you'd attach to a debut announcement, while the Starting Soon screen reads calmer and more intimate, which fits a late-night streaming persona settling in before going live. If I had to pick a favorite output, it's the Starting Soon screen. The 16:9 layout, the drifting star motifs in the background, and the soft comment box all combine in a way the profile panels don't need to, since their job was identity lock-in rather than atmosphere.

That's the actual result of this test: one OC, two structurally different templates, and a visual identity that survived the transition between them intact.

What Else Could You Create for This VTuber?

Nyx's four-trait design generalizes well beyond these two outputs. A few directions worth testing with the same reference image:

  • Gaming stream visuals: a shift in tone entirely, energetic instead of calm, framed around whatever title she'd be playing.

  • Late-night radio theme: pushing further into the moon and star motifs already baked into the design.

  • Morning chat theme: a brighter, softer counterpart to the Starting Soon screen, same character reframed in daylight.

  • Seasonal stream visuals: a winter or holiday variant that doesn't touch the core identity.

  • Matching wallpapers or backgrounds: extending the same visual system past streaming into assets a viewer could actually use.

It's confirming the identity holds up once, then reusing that reference as many times as needed.

Conclusion

One OC, two cloned workflows, and a VTuber identity that held together end to end. Official Debut produced Nyx's profile assets, Good Morning, 8,000 Viewers produced her Starting Soon screen, and neither required a build-from-scratch approach.

That's the core takeaway: you don't need a complex setup to turn an existing OC into a VTuber concept. You need one solid character reference, a couple of existing PixAI Studio workflows, and a willingness to swap in your own character and see what comes back.
