Congrats @anmolbaranwal Keep the good work!
Totally agree! I like to think we can't predict our next hit. That's why we should keep writing and sharing value. Like two weeks ago, I had a viral post. The next ones? Back to normal.
My advice for anyone starting? Just start, learn as you go, and adapt. If we wait to be experts or "real" writers, we never do it.
It can also take a while for a post to find the people that are looking for it, especially when you're starting.
I have a post on my blog that sat with basically 0 views for 2 years, and now it's the most viewed post every month (and it isn't particularly close)! Sometimes even the hits can take a while to pop off, which is hard to adjust to coming from social media where anything that doesn't immediately get traction will die off and never be seen.
Yes, it could take months until bots crawl and index a post. You're right about social media, they have faster feedback loops. For me the best combination for long-form posts is "social blogs," places like dev.to. They have already an audience and a discoverability feature.
I wrote a blog about common open source projects to contribute. It had less than 4k views after several months.. then I forgot about it. Only to realize that it got a regular 100-200 views per day after that from google.
It is one of my top 3 blogs of all time and has a massive amount of views. So you never know when your content will pop off :)
This is one of the reasons I love devto, it's always out there.
Thanks for reading, Cesar.
Yep, just focus on providing value... sometimes, stressing over things we can't control takes a real toll on our mental health (I try to avoid it).
So yeah, keep writing and growing :)
Thanks for the great tips!
