The Last Markdown Editor You'll Ever Need

Introducing AnySlate: A Markdown-First Workspace Built for the Future

Hey everyone 👋

I built AnySlate because I was tired of powerful ideas being locked inside proprietary formats, artificial abstractions, and pricing models that only go up as competition disappears.

We've all been there. You pick a tool because it's fast, clean, and affordable. Then slowly, features get paywalled. Formats get locked. Switching costs grow. And before you know it, you're not choosing to stay, you're trapped.

Markdown is simple, portable, AI-friendly, and future-proof. It's been around for decades, and it still works everywhere. Yet most modern tools either wrap it in hidden formats, quietly move away from it, or use it as a marketing term while building something entirely proprietary underneath.

AnySlate is truly Markdown first. Not Markdown compatible.

There's a real difference. Markdown-compatible means your content can be exported to Markdown if you ever leave. Markdown first means your content lives, breathes, and grows in Markdown from day one. No conversion. No hidden schema. No surprises.

Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Inline page-to-page linking written in native Markdown, not a proprietary syntax that breaks the moment you leave the app
  • Native image and file embedding directly in the Markdown structure, your files stay with your words, not hidden in a database you can't access
  • A powerful block editor experience similar to modern workspace tools — the familiarity you expect without the lock-in you don't
  • Real-time collaboration, work together with your team without leaving Markdown behind
  • Secure sharing and publishing, share with the world or keep it private, on your terms
  • Version history built into the core, track changes over time without third-party integrations or premium upgrades

Everything stays in real Markdown. No proprietary schema. No export anxiety. No lock-in. Your words belong to you, and they always will.

On pricing and independence

I also believe creative infrastructure should not drift toward monopoly pricing. The pattern is familiar: a tool launches with generous pricing, builds an audience, raises funding, acquires competitors, and then slowly turns the screws. When ecosystems consolidate, pricing becomes leverage against the very people who made the product successful.

AnySlate is built around transparent and sustainable pricing that respects creators and teams. We want to grow with our users, not at their expense. That means no surprise price hikes, no features quietly moved behind paywalls, and no artificial limits designed to push you into a higher tier.

What's coming

This is only the beginning. We're especially excited about expanding into MCP-powered workflows and AI native collaboration. Imagine your AI agent reading, writing, and organising your Markdown workspace natively, without copy-pasting, without switching apps, without breaking your flow. That future is nearer than you think, and AnySlate is being built for it from the ground up.

We want to hear from you

I would genuinely love feedback from developers, writers, teams, and AI power users. We built AnySlate because we believed something better was possible. But the best products are shaped by the people who use them.

What would make this your default Markdown workspace?
