Many “monthly performance review” templates are built for HR one-to-ones. This one is for website performance: Core Web Vitals, regressions, and the work your team ships—so clients who pay for speed and stability get a steady rhythm instead of one-off updates when something breaks.

Internal review first, then the client

Do not skip the internal pass. Half-explained metrics on a client call usually mean the team argues about interpretation in front of them—or nobody agreed what “green” meant before you dialled in.

Run sections 1–6 with tech plus account or delivery (15–20 minutes). Align on severity, strip noise, agree what you can say externally. Then use section 7 plus one executive line for the client call or email (20–30 minutes; account-only is fine for low-touch clients). Clients rarely need every alert ID—they need proof you are in control and a clear ask when their content, scripts, or hosting blocks progress.

Use a simple status system so everyone speaks the same language:

Technical lead: confirm URLs, mobile and desktop, and budgets still match what you monitor. One line of suspected cause per regression; realistic effort for the top three actions.

Account or delivery lead: what the client already saw in tickets or Slack; promises in writing; whether section 7 reads like a service update, not a post-mortem.

After the meeting: outputs that close the loop

  1. Tasks — three actions with owner and due date in your PM tool, not only in notes.
  2. Client touchpoint — short email with section 7 bullets plus a dashboard or PDF link, or a call with the same content; depth should match the contract.
  3. Threshold sanity — if the same template stays “Needs attention”, fix the budget, fix the page, or reset expectations in writing.

Common mistakes this template avoids

1) Mixing diagnosis with decision-making

You can spend an hour debating why a metric moved and still leave without a plan. Keep root-cause deep dives separate when needed. The monthly review should end with owned actions.

2) Reporting averages only

Averaged scores hide broken high-value pages. Always include at least one section on key templates and business-critical URLs.

3) No link between performance and client impact

Clients do not buy "better Lighthouse numbers". They buy risk reduction, stability, and fewer surprises. Translate each major change into likely impact on user experience and search visibility.

4) Too many priorities

If every item is urgent, nothing is urgent. Keep the next-month action list to three items max.
