How to Find Reddit Leads for Your SaaS Without Getting Banned (2026 Playbook)

Disclosure: we make Appie.run, one of the tools mentioned in Step 3. Prices are as of 14 October 2026.

To find Reddit leads, look for threads where people are already asking for help with a problem you solve, get to them early and answer honestly. Reading Reddit won't get you banned. Promoting yourself badly will: dropping links, pasting the same reply everywhere, hiding who you work for and ignoring each subreddit's rules. This playbook covers a five-step routine that founders, GTM teams and agencies can run every week.

Why Reddit works for B2B SaaS leads, and why most brands get removed

People on Reddit ask for tool recommendations in public, in their own words, while they're actively deciding. A thread titled "is there a tool that does X?" is a buyer telling you what they need.

Redditors also notice promotion fast. Brands that turn up only to post links get downvoted, removed by moderators or banned. The approach that works is slower: be useful in the community first, and bring up your product only when it actually answers the question.

Step 1: Pick 3 to 5 subreddits where your buyers already talk

Finding them

  • Search the complaint, not the category. A practitioner in r/microsaas put it this way: people describe their pain ("my onboarding emails get ignored"), not your product category ("lifecycle email software").
  • Check competitor mentions. Search for competitor names and see which subreddits keep coming up.
  • Use Google. Reddit's own search is weak for older posts. Searching site:reddit.com "your problem phrase" on Google with a date filter finds more.

Pick 3 to 5 subreddits and read them for a couple of weeks before you post. You'll learn what gets upvoted, what gets removed and how people talk.

Read the rules

Every subreddit sets its own rules. Look out for:

  • Minimum account age and karma. Some communities require 30 to 90 days.
  • Self-promotion megathreads, where product mentions are only allowed in one weekly post.
  • Required post flair.
  • Outright bans on links or on mentioning products at all.

If you're unsure, message the moderators and ask. That's better than finding out by getting removed.

Step 2: Build a list of intent phrases

Phrases that signal buying intent work better than your brand name or category.

Phrase Intent Example search
"alternative to [competitor]" High: already shopping "alternative to Mailchimp"
"is there a tool that" High: looking for a solution "is there a tool that" + onboarding emails
"recommendations for" High "recommendations for" social listening
"what do you use for" Medium: comparing options "what do you use for" LinkedIn outreach
"struggling with" Medium: pain, not yet shopping "struggling with" churn

Start with about 10 phrases. Add ones that bring up good threads and drop the noisy ones.

Step 3: Monitor without living on Reddit

Manual

Run your phrases in Reddit search sorted by New, and on Google with site:reddit.com and a past-week filter. This is free, but it takes time every day and it's easy to miss things.

Alerts

  • F5Bot sends keyword alerts from Reddit, Hacker News and Lobsters. It has a free plan; Silver costs $9.99 and Gold $49.99.
  • Syften monitors Reddit and many other communities. It aims to alert you within a minute of a Reddit post. Entry is $29.95 a month and Standard is $49.95 a month. It doesn't monitor LinkedIn.
  • Octolens listens across 15+ platforms, starting at $199 a month on Pro.

Triage and reply drafts

Appie.run Reddit Marketing (ours) tracks your keywords, brand and competitor names in a project and collects new matching posts in one inbox. When a thread fits, it drafts a first reply from the post plus your positioning notes, including what not to promise. Appie never posts for you. As its own page says, use the draft as scaffolding and rewrite it in your voice. A draft costs 2 credits and a discovery scan costs 10. There's a free plan with no card required, and paid plans start at $19 a month.

Step 4: Reply so you help first and sell second

A reply template

  1. Answer the question directly in the first line or two.
  2. Add specifics from your own experience, such as steps, tradeoffs or what didn't work.
  3. Mention your product only if it fits, with a disclosure. For example: "Full disclosure, I'm building a tool for this, but here's how to do it without one too."
  4. Name alternatives when you know them. It makes you more credible.

Advice in r/DigitalMarketing matches this: make sure the thread is still active, answer first and disclose your affiliation. Disclosure isn't only good manners; marketing guides tie it to FTC guidance on endorsements.

What gets you banned

  • Posting links in every comment
  • Copy-pasting the same reply across threads
  • Vote manipulation, including asking colleagues to upvote
  • Cold DMs in communities that ban them
  • Breaking account-age, karma or self-promotion rules

If you want guaranteed placement, Reddit Ads are the paid route, and they're labeled as ads.

Step 5: Track what turns into pipeline

  • Add UTM parameters to any link you share, such as utm_source=reddit&utm_campaign=r-saas.
  • Add a "How did you hear about us?" field at signup.
  • Keep a simple log of the thread, the date, whether you replied and what happened.

After a month, you'll see which subreddits and phrases actually bring in signups.

A weekly routine for founders and agencies

  • Monday (30 min): review new threads from your alerts or inbox and shortlist 5 to 10.
  • Daily (15 min): reply to the 1 to 3 best threads, rewriting any draft in your own voice.
  • Friday (20 min): update your phrase list and check results.

Agencies should keep one project per client, each with its own keywords, subreddits and voice notes, so clients never get mixed up.
