💡 The Everyday Struggle
Imagine Ramesh, a 45-year-old farmer from Maharashtra earning ₹1.5 Lakhs a year. The Indian Government has multiple schemes designed exactly for people like him—subsidies for seeds, healthcare benefits, and financial aid.
But there’s a catch.
To get these benefits, Ramesh needs to know the exact name of the scheme, navigate a complex government portal (usually in English or formal Hindi), and figure out a maze of document requirements. Result? He gives up, and the funds meant for him remain unused.
This isn't just Ramesh's story. Millions of farmers, students, women, and low-income families in India miss out on their rightful benefits simply because of information overload and language barriers.
I realized that citizens don't need another search engine. They need a guide. That’s why I built JanSahayak AI.
What is JanSahayak AI?
JanSahayak AI is a smart, multilingual web platform powered by Google Gemini. Instead of asking citizens to search for schemes, it reverses the process: You tell the AI who you are, and it tells you exactly what government benefits you are entitled to.
I built it to be as simple as talking to a knowledgeable friend. Here is how it works:
1. The Scheme Matchmaker
No more endless scrolling through PDF documents. A user simply enters their basic details: Age, State, Occupation, and Income.
Instantly, the AI engine scans its knowledge base and outputs the top 3 schemes the user is highly eligible for, complete with a bulleted list of benefits and the official application link.
2. The Document Doctor
A scheme is useless if you don't have the right paperwork. JanSahayak has a built-in "Readiness Checker". You tick the documents you currently have (like Aadhaar and a Bank Passbook), and the AI tells you what is missing (like an Income Certificate) and guides you on how to get it.
3. It Speaks Your Language
India speaks in hundreds of dialects. Using the native reasoning power of Gemini, the entire platform—from the interface to the AI's advice—can instantly switch between English, Hindi, and Bengali.
4. The 24/7 Citizen Chatbot
Got a specific question? The platform features a floating AI assistant. A user can simply type, "How do I update my address on my Aadhaar?" and the AI will provide a simple, actionable reply.
🧠The Brains Behind the Magic: Google Gemini
To make this work seamlessly on a lightweight website, I used the Google Gemini 2.5 Flash API.
Why Gemini? Because civic-tech requires empathy and accuracy.
1. Speed: The Flash model processes the user's profile and returns formatted, localized results in milliseconds.
2. Accuracy over Hallucination: Using strict Prompt Engineering, I confined the AI to only output factual data. It is explicitly programmed to never invent fake official links. If it doesn't know the exact portal, it directs the user to the safe fallback: india.gov.in.
(Note: To ensure trust, the platform features a highly visible moving disclaimer clarifying it is an AI prototype and not an official government portal).
The Bigger Picture
Generative AI is brilliant at writing code and generating images, but its true superpower is leveling the playing field.
JanSahayak AI is my submission for the Google Gen AI Academy, but more importantly, it is a prototype for digital empowerment. By bridging the gap between complex bureaucracy and the common citizen, we can ensure that India's social safety nets finally reach the hands they were built for.
Let’s use AI to build a smarter, more inclusive India.
