Hi DEV community!
I maintain a small free tool called Morse Code Live and wanted to share it here.
What it does
It is a browser based Morse code translator. You type text, and it:
- plays the message as Morse code audio
- flashes a lamp so you can watch the pattern with your eyes
- lets you download the audio as a WAV file
- translates Morse from audio files and from live microphone input, so you can practice copying real signals
- includes an ear trainer that teaches letters by sound instead of by counting dots
There is no signup, nothing to install, and it runs in any modern browser, mobile included.
Why I built it
Most free translators I tried only convert text to dots and dashes on screen. I wanted one that actually plays the sound, shows the light, and also works in the other direction, from audio to text. So this one listens too: give it a recording or your microphone, and it writes out the Morse it hears.
Everything is free. No accounts, no paywall.
Feedback welcome
If you try it and something feels off, or an ear trainer exercise is too hard or too easy, tell me in the comments. It genuinely helps.
