Watch what you do
when someone you mentor
does something great.
Your first instinct
might be to add your part.
To mention the advice you gave.
To fold their win
into your story.
Resist that.
The moment is theirs.
Give it to them completely.
Say their name.
Say what they did.
Say it where other people can hear.
And leave your role out of it.
They already know you helped.
You don't need the credit.
You need them to feel
the full weight of their own win,
so they reach for the next one.
A mentor who quietly collects credit
teaches people to shrink
around them.
A mentor who celebrates loudly
teaches people to grow.
Your reward isn't the recognition.
It's watching someone
you believed in
start to believe in themselves.
Cheer louder for their wins
than you ever would
for your own.
That's the whole job.
