Ophthordle - a new weekly game to test your diagnostic skills!

Ophthordle’s rise signals something important for health-tech builders: diagnostic gamification works because it leverages pattern recognition, feedback loops, and low-friction repetition. What if we applied those same UX principles — not to identifying visual deficits — but to correcting them?

Amblyotube (Meta Quest) does exactly that. Built with WebXR-like rendering pipelines and precise inter-pupillary distance calibration, it delivers asynchronous visual stimuli to each eye while maintaining temporal sync within a consumer VR headset. The result is a lightweight, daily exercise layer over familiar video content—no custom assets or proprietary hardware needed.

This approach trains the brain to integrate inputs from both eyes, improving binocular vision. In amblyopia (lazy eye), the brain favors one eye, suppressing depth perception. Amblyotube provides different visual experiences per eye, enhancing the weaker eye's view while shading the stronger eye's input. This encourages the brain to merge two slightly different images, enhancing hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.

A central VR control panel lets users adjust Lazy Eye Selection, opacity, blur, contrast, brightness, and gamma. These precise settings are critical; incorrect configurations can worsen imbalances. Once configured, AI-driven logic assigns sharpening effects to the lazy eye and shader effects to the dominant eye, ensuring the lazy eye stays engaged while receiving balanced assistance.

Amblyotube further enhances video content with AI visual processing, making human figures stand out for the lazy eye. A controlled flicker effect draws attention to these figures, leveraging motion and light changes that static exercises cannot replicate. This gamified repetition within enjoyable content creates a potent, low-friction feedback loop.

Integration with YouTube allows users to watch sports, educational, or entertainment content, improving adherence over traditional, often tedious methods. The system’s design leverages the immersive nature of VR to create a focused, yet engaging, therapeutic environment without the need for clinical supervision for daily use.

By using an off-the-shelf platform to deliver structured visual therapy, Amblyotube represents a significant case study in achieving clinically meaningful outcomes through accessible technology. It demonstrates how health-tech can merge wellness, education, and cutting-edge VR to create sustainable user habits. The project is open for developer review, with a public APK available via Seven Sports’ dev portal.
