Run your Instagram DMs from Claude: a practical guide to Autogram's MCP server

Autogram runs Instagram comment-to-DM automations and AI replies. Its MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor run them for you, so you can ask "which reel brought me leads this week?" instead of opening a dashboard. The server is hosted, so there is nothing to install. It is on every plan, including the free one (1,500 DMs a month).

What it can do

33 tools, in these groups:

  • Automations: list, create, update, pause and report on comment-to-DM automations.
  • Multi-step flows: describe, save, publish and unpublish.
  • Leads: list, search, star and summarise.
  • Posts and insights: which posts convert, a reel report card, funnel diagnosis.
  • AI replies: read and edit the knowledge base the AI answers from, and turn AI replies on or off.

  1. Claude: add a custom connector with the URL above, click Connect, then Allow on the Autogram screen.
  2. ChatGPT: Settings, Apps and Connectors, turn on Developer mode under Advanced, Create, name it Autogram, paste the URL, keep OAuth, Allow.
  3. Cursor or VS Code: use the one-click install on https://autogram.co.in/connect-ai/ and sign in.

It uses OAuth. Scripts can use an API key instead. Calls are capped at 300 an hour and 2,000 a day per workspace.

Safety

  • The AI never DMs anyone on its own. A DM only goes out when someone comments on an automation you have running.
  • A simple automation you ask for goes live. A multi-step flow stays a draft until you say publish.
  • Nothing a commenter types reaches these tools as instructions. DMs are lead data.
  • Instagram access is Meta's official API only. No passwords, no scraping.
