TikTok has no setting that turns off the For You page, only tools that change what For You shows plus a daily reminder. If you want For You gone while your messages keep working, the most direct option is minulo, an iPhone app that opens TikTok with For You hidden, and hiding it is free. Locking the official TikTok app is free for up to 2 hours per block, and schedules come with minulo Pro.
Short answer: I couldn't find one. I went through TikTok's help center in October 2026 looking for a setting that turns off the For You feed, and there isn't one listed. TikTok always opens on For You. What TikTok gives you instead are tools that change what For You shows, plus a daily reminder. This post goes through each of them, what happens after you use it, and what to do if you want the feed gone while your messages keep working.
A disclosure before anything else: I'm Ayumu Kitabayashi, and I make minulo, an iPhone app that hides feeds like For You. I mention it near the end, so read that part knowing I'm not neutral. The TikTok and iPhone facts below come from TikTok's help pages and Apple's iPhone User Guide, checked on 2026-10-23. Menu names can change with updates.
The tools TikTok gives you, and what happens after
Refresh your For You feed
Where: Profile → Menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Content preferences → Refresh your For You feed. In some regions you can also start it from a post: press and hold, then Why this video → Adjust your For You → Refresh your For You feed.
What happens: TikTok shows you a batch of popular posts, and your likes and comments on those rebuild your recommendations. Two things surprised me in the help page. First, a refresh can't be undone. Second, it only touches For You. Your Following feed, profile, inbox and ads stay as they were. And because For You learns again from what you watch, it fills back up. A refresh is a good idea if your feed has gone somewhere you don't like. It is not a way to stop watching.
Not interested
Press and hold a post (or tap Share), then Not interested. You get fewer posts like that one. From Details you can also pick that post's hashtags and filter them. It works one post at a time, so it's useful for trimming, not for removing anything.
Filter keywords
Content preferences → Filter keywords → Add keyword. You type a word or hashtag and choose which feeds it applies to, such as For You and Following. Smart filter also catches similar words. Limits from TikTok's help: up to 100 keywords, some keywords can't be filtered, and not every variation is caught. This one is handy for a topic that keeps showing up and bothers you, like spoilers for a show you haven't finished.
Manage topics
Content preferences → Manage topics gives you a slider per topic, such as sports or food. TikTok says it only changes For You and can take a while to kick in.
Following and the Friends Tab
You can tap over to Following (creators you follow) or Friends (friends, accounts you follow and some suggested accounts). The catch is that you choose it every time. The app still opens on For You, and when you run out of posts in those feeds, TikTok suggests going to For You.
Turning off personalized feeds
TikTok's help says this is only available in some regions, such as the EU. When it's off, For You becomes a Popular feed of popular posts. So you still have a feed to scroll. It's just less tailored to you.
Daily screen time
Profile → Menu → Settings and privacy → Time and well-being → Screen time → Daily screen time. When you reach the limit, TikTok notifies you, and you can close the app or type the passcode shown on the screen to keep watching. Since the passcode is right there, it works as a reminder. For users aged 13 to 17 it's on by default at 1 hour. On the same screen, Sleep hours mutes TikTok's push notifications after the time you set.
What about iPhone Screen Time?
Screen Time can stop TikTok properly. In iOS 26 you add an App Limit, set a Screen Time passcode and turn on Block at End of Limit. The problem is that it limits the whole app. If your friends message you on TikTok, those messages stop too. Screen Time can't target one feed inside an app.
So what can you actually do?
It depends on why you open TikTok.
- You mostly watch, and want less of certain things. Use Not interested, Filter keywords and Manage topics. They're free and built in.
- You want to quit for a while. Use Screen Time with a passcode someone else sets, or delete the app.
- You use TikTok for messages and want For You gone. This is the case TikTok's own tools don't cover. You need to open TikTok somewhere that hides that feed.
For that last case there are a few apps that open social networks in their own view with parts hidden. For Instagram and YouTube there are several, such as SocialLite, UNDOOMED and Nope (Nope works in Safari and covers Instagram and YouTube). If TikTok is the one you care about, check each app's App Store page to see whether TikTok is on its list before you pay for anything.
How minulo handles it
minulo opens TikTok's website inside the app. You log in on TikTok's own login page, and minulo doesn't receive or store your password.
- Install minulo from the App Store.
- On the home screen, tap Add a service and choose TikTok.
- Tap the gear next to TikTok and turn on Recommendations to hide For You. If you only want messages, turn on Every tab but DMs instead. That hides Following too.
- Optional: in the Block tab, allow Screen Time and choose TikTok in Apps to block. Tapping the TikTok icon then shows a Blocked screen with an Open in minulo button.
Once hiding is on, it stays on until you turn it off. Messages and Following open from the minulo home screen. Hiding is free. Locking the official app is free for up to 2 hours per block, and you can start another block as often as you like. minulo Pro ($9.99 a month or $39.99 a year in the US) adds schedules by day and time, blocks longer than 2 hours, Hard Mode (turning a block off takes a few minutes on purpose) and multiple block lists.
What minulo can't do
- It doesn't change the official TikTok app. Nothing outside TikTok can. minulo shows TikTok's website, so anything the website doesn't have, minulo doesn't have either.
- Notifications stop while the official app is locked. If you lock TikTok with minulo, its notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. Lock it when you can miss them, like at night or while studying.
- No Android version. It's iPhone only for now.
- It's new. minulo launched in September 2026. On the US App Store it had no ratings yet when I checked on 2026-10-24. For comparison, SocialLite had 15,058 US ratings on the same day. If lots of reviews matter to you, that's a fair reason to pick something else.
