minulo is an iPhone app that opens YouTube on Subscriptions with Shorts and Home recommendations hidden, so you get new videos from the channels you follow and nothing else. Hiding is free. In the YouTube app itself, the closest official option is the Subs feed in the top bar of Home, which you tap every time, because the app always opens on Home. (I'm the developer of minulo.)
The YouTube facts below come from YouTube Help, checked on October 25, 2026. Menu names can change with app updates.
What YouTube's own settings do, and where they stop
The Subs feed
- Open the YouTube app. It opens on the Home tab.
- In the top bar of Home, tap Subs.
- Tap a channel picture at the top to go to that channel.
YouTube's help describes Subs as the feed with the newest videos from channels you subscribe to. That's the feed many people want. But YouTube's help says the app opens on Home, and I couldn't find a setting that makes it open on Subs. So every time, you pass Home first, and Home is where the Shorts shelf is.
Pausing watch history
The common tip is to pause watch history so Home has nothing to recommend:
- Tap your profile picture, then Settings, then Manage all history.
- Tap the Controls tab.
- Unselect Include the YouTube videos you watch.
YouTube's help does say Home recommendations are removed when you have no relevant recent history and have chosen not to get recommendations based on it.
Here's the catch. YouTube's help page on feeds says the feeds and the top bar are not visible if your watch history is paused or turned off. Subs is in that top bar. So emptying Home this way also takes away the Subs feed in the app, and the help doesn't describe another way to reach it while history is off.
Trimming Home instead
If you keep history on, you can still trim Home. Tap More (⋮) next to a video and choose Not interested, or Don't recommend channel. On a grid of Shorts on Home, tap More and choose Show fewer Shorts. These change what you get. Home keeps recommending, and Shorts get fewer, not zero.
Steps in minulo
minulo shows YouTube's official website inside the app, starting on Subscriptions.
- Install minulo, tap Add a service on the home screen and choose YouTube.
- Tap the gear next to YouTube and choose Subscriptions only. That hides Shorts, Home recommendations, comments, channel posts and search. Videos from your subscriptions still play.
- If you want to keep search, choose Hide Shorts and recommendations instead.
- Optional: in the Block tab, lock the official YouTube app with Screen Time, so tapping its icon shows a block screen and Open in minulo brings you back here.
Your watch history can stay on, so the Subs problem above doesn't come up.
Limits
- The official YouTube app doesn't change. Shorts and recommendations are hidden only inside minulo.
- Free locks last up to 2 hours per block. Schedules by day and time, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists are minulo Pro.
- No YouTube notifications while the app is locked. minulo sends none of its own, so if you rely on alerts from a channel, leave the official app unlocked.
- iPhone and Mac only. The Mac version works in Safari and Chrome. There's no Android version.
Summary
In the YouTube app, Subs is one tap away from Home, but you can't make the app start there. Pausing watch history empties Home, and per YouTube's help it also hides the top bar where Subs lives. If what you want is "my subscriptions, normal videos, no Shorts," open YouTube in minulo with Subscriptions only, for free, and keep your history as it is.
