minulo's answer is yes, you will miss the push notifications: while minulo blocks the official Instagram app with Screen Time, that app's notifications don't arrive, and minulo doesn't send any of its own, so you read DMs by opening Instagram inside minulo. I'm the developer of minulo.
For keeping class group chats without the Reels: Instagram group chats without Reels
Why it happens
Screen Time's block works on the whole app. A blocked app can't show its notifications, and that's an iOS rule, not something an app like minulo can change.
Three ways to set it up, depending on what you need
- You can live without the alerts. Block the official app and check DMs in minulo a few times a day. Reels, Explore and suggested posts are hidden there for free, and DMs and group chats keep working.
- You need the alerts. Don't block the official app. Use minulo to browse Instagram with Reels hidden, and keep the official app only for notifications. In Instagram's own settings, turn off the notifications you don't need, so the alerts you tap are DMs.
- Notifications matter more than anything else. SocialLite can show notifications for Instagram and Snapchat, so it may suit you better than minulo.
Whichever you pick, try it for a few days before deciding. Most people find out quickly whether a missed alert actually costs them anything.
