AI adoption is often discussed in terms of capability: which model is more powerful, which harness is more flexible, or which approach produces the most sophisticated response.
For enterprise automation, that is only part of the story.
The better question is:
"What is the lightest, fastest, and most controlled AI architecture that can reliably deliver the required business outcome?"
I compared a Standard Harness using AI Builder prompts **with a **GitHub Copilot Harness across five recurring AI patterns:
- Ticket classification
- Financial text generation
- News summarisation
- Extractive question answering
- PDF/image invoice extraction
The outcome was not that one harness wins everywhere. Instead, the tests showed a clear pattern:
- Standard Harness performed strongly for bounded, structured, extraction-led workloads.
- GitHub Copilot Harness performed better for open-ended writing and long-form unstructured summarisation
This matters not only for cost and performance, but potentially for responsible AI design. Where a smaller, more targeted approach achieves the same business result with less processing time and lower measured credit consumption, it is a sensible option to consider as part of a more resource-conscious architecture.
