I'm in Paris for the first time, speaking at dotjs later this week.
It's a beautiful city, very pleased to be experiencing it. Main activities for my wife and I so far is just walking around, popping in on some restaurants, and that kind of thing.
Welcome to Paris @ben ! Enjoy your stay.
Paris is a beautiful town, was there some years ago at a ReactEurope conference.
After the conference, we went to the 🗼. It took us over an hour to reach it by the 🚇. On the way there, we looked at all the surroundings. It was a very enjoyable ride.
Fun part: we needed some directions, for some reason search engines and maps wasn't good enough at the time, so I went to a near police van to ask for directions. The door opened and a group of heavy armed police officers came out. I asked in English, and one of them, who surrounded me, told me where to go. He additionally mentioned to not approach any bigger police cars today. The others seemed to be irritated, as I seemed not to be any nervous. No wonder, a developer with clients experience. 🤣
I thanked them and went on. The faces of the people around me were priceless. Just like walking out of an action scene. I will never forget that. 😆
Pro tip: Avoid asking 👮 with bigger cars in Paris.
Good luck with the dotJS conference, Ben! 🎉🍀
I was in Paris last year with my husband, and there were so many great places to visit: the Eiffel Tower 🗼, the Louvre Museum 🖼️, the Arc de Triomphe 🇫🇷, and many more.
The Louvre Museum was so big that we didn't have enough time for a full tour. 😅
Some nights after dinner, we would go for a walk. We often went to Amorino for ice cream 🍦, or we’d stop by a street food stall selling crepes—so delicious! 😋 I still miss that. We also visited Ladurée to buy some macarons. 🍰
Hope both you and your wife have a great stay in Paris! 😊
Paris is a sumptuous city ! There are lots of activities to do, how many days do you stay ?
Also, you may encounter difficulties during your visit due to preparations for the Olympics 😬
I started running a Minecraft server for my friends in a really weird way. Normally, you should be able to download a few things to run the server itself, then set up port 25565 for port forwarding. For some reason, my ISP doesn't let me do that, so I had to think of another way.
I could've payed 8 USD a month for a Minecraft Realm, but I decided that I would like to run a few QOL mods on the server, and Realms don't allow you to do that. I also could've payed 16 USD per month for a server of the same quality that would let me run mods, but I didn't really want to pay that much.
I found an alternative though. There's a mod called Essentials that allows you to do peer-to-peer server hosting, which is pretty sweet. The only problem is that my account could never be constantly online since I dual boot between Windows and Linux. Because of that, I ended up buying a second account for 15 USD, setting it up on my 10 year old laptop that barely starts, and hosting a world off of that. The only problem is that unloaded chunks load really slow, but for a one time payment of 15 USD for a server that is up 24/7, I'll live with slow chunk loading.
I am working and traveling to a very beautiful island in Peloponnese peninsula in south-eastern Greece which only has 3000 inhabitants.
Great inspiration for writing a tech article as well.
Wow sounds amazing
Joined a python enthusiast group. Going to teach my python skills to my new homies.
Awesome!
I'm reading Berserk (currently in chapter 289) and am deeply afraid cause I'm arriving at the boat arc. By now, it has shown itself as an amazing manga but most fandom hate this part and lots of readers just gave up of reading it
My son, my wife and I are in a school band project. We had our first gig at his school festival. Together we were 15 kids and us two parents. We worked hard for the past four months to reach that level with a lot of different talents.
We had so much fun to play, that the kids were not nervous at all. Such a great enjoyment.
How wholesome. Really really love that for you. Can't wait for young ones for myself. Raising kids in Colombia looks like it'll be wonderful!
