The Internet is Evolved by Large Companies
Internet at Start for Personal Content
The world wide web was created for exchanging articles between schools and students. Then more personal websites were added because server hosting services were opened to public and the creation of basic web pages were doable by techies. Then lower level of private news and education posts and blogs were published for use. During college years when I had computer and internet usage, I remember that I started learning web development with Geocities. And then I introduced live info in access such as investment news and stock prices to the family. Then came Facebook and Twitter for early social media examples to let users interact lively with chatting. There were also simple online group games such as playing cards and simple shooting.
Commercial Services Started on Internet
After web technologies and security advanced, commercial merchants were starting to take advantage by presenting their products and later even connecting secure digital payments. Ebay was the definite early creator of B2C (Business to Customer) trading platform, and even after its explosion, it has been maintaining its usability and size forever. My first participated company, iOffer, had its sense of Ebay's success and had me joined as pretty much the founding programmer for writing the application for B2C and C2C product selling via offer negotiations and price purchases. And iOffer grew quite well from Inc to Corp level, but in comparison, its was only possible some percentages of Ebay size. It started profiting after a few years of collecting portion of seller transactions. Having a small amount of shares benefited me with tens of thousands according to millions of profits. Unfortunately these sellers started selling fraud products and buyer complaints soon activated awareness of the payment services of credit card processors and banks. And eventually iOffer had to switch payment services, but second and third trials still failed. Around the middle of the financial struggle, I was laid off because development team was expanded previously but then had to be shrunken. If I was capable to learn the best newest technologies and willing to manage more developers, I could have become the staff engineer instead of another team leader being hired. Honestly in startups, I was so busy and committed and really did not have much time and energy to learn many new technologies deeply except upgrading existing ones.
More Than Money Has Infiltrated the Internet
Without a doubt a search engine has to have its moderating to filter out indexing of the inappropriate and controversial content. Unfortunately humans are not all the same and we have our differences and desires, which affect the search engines like Google. Underneath Google search really has its search results skewed when there could be payment from rich ones or enforcement from big influencers for certain categories of content such as politics, activism, etc. YouTube which is also owned by Google now clearly has some twists more than necessary moderation for selection of videos on dashboard and in related videos for the user. Obviously being the users of any social media, we have our personal profile of interests, dislikes, associated groups and activities. That profile is meant to introduce better ads and products to make money out of us. And content is limited according our stances to social issues. And the most recent tactic Google is to restrict use of search engine when foreign schools ban the use of AI by the teachers and students. Search engines are so capable with AI, so the students can simply paste in questions to get answers instead of self thinking. The consequence of such usage is definitely weakening of student learning.
How to Resolve the Tainted Internet
The ideal internet would be clean straight forward knowledge and data shared to the public without any skewing, hiding and lies. In case of education, content in other categories outside education purposes would be censored and filtered out, such as social media and entertainment. Obviously the internet has no chance would be such perfectly provided and regulated. There's one unique Tor Browser that keeps access uncensored and freedom to access anywhere. But it also opens up gates to critical or illegal content. Therefore, it's not clean. Would be simply need to reindex the web sites and pages for our personal usage? Not so easy because that'd need constant moderation and approval & disapproval of content.
