When most builders create a homepage, they think categories are for users.

Navigation.

Structure.

Convenience.

But while working on AllInOneTools, I realized something unexpected:

Categories are also for search engines.

And they use them to understand your entire website.

How search engines actually see your categories

Search engines don’t see design.

They see structure.

Your categories help them answer questions like:

• What topics does this website cover?
• How deep is the content?
• Is this site specialized or random?
• How pages connect to each other

Your categories become signals.

Not just navigation.

When categories help the most

Categories help search engines the moment they crawl your homepage.

Because categories usually contain:

• Internal links
• Keywords
• Topic grouping
• Clear hierarchy

This makes crawling easier.

And understanding faster.

What effect strong categories create

From my experience, categories help improve:

1. Indexing speed

Search engines discover your tools faster.

2. Topical clarity

Google understands what your site is about.

Example:

If you have:

PDF Tools
Image Tools
SEO Tools

Search engines trust your site more in those topics.

3. Internal linking strength

Categories connect related tools.

This improves overall SEO strength.

The mistake I made earlier

Initially, I treated categories as simple UI blocks.

But after restructuring them clearly, I noticed:

More pages indexed.

More impressions.

Better visibility.

Same tools.

Better structure.

Better results.

The mental model I follow now

Tools = content

Categories = SEO structure

Without categories, your SEO foundation is weak.

Curious how others think about this:

Do you create categories mainly for users…

or do you consciously design them for SEO too?

Have you seen categories affect your indexing or traffic?

For me, categories became one of the biggest SEO improvements.

Earlier, many tools were not getting indexed properly.

After organizing tools into clear categories, indexing improved and impressions increased.

I realized categories help search engines understand:

what your site offers
and how everything is connected

Categories are not just navigation.

They are SEO structure.
