How I Built a 100% Client-Side ATS Resume Checker & PDF Toolkit (Zero Server Uploads)

If you have applied for a tech job recently, you already know the frustration of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Worse, if you want to test how an ATS reads your PDF or DOCX resume before applying, almost every scanner online forces you to hand over your email address, uploads your personal contact history to their cloud servers, and puts the actual results behind a monthly subscription.

After 18 years working in enterprise infrastructure and tech support, I decided to build a fast, client-side alternative called Readbackβ€”along with a full suite of zero-upload browser tools on Modern Niche World.

Why Client-Side Matters for Resume & Document Utilities

When someone is compressing a passport PDF to 100KB for a visa portal, stripping EXIF location metadata from a photo, or running their resume through an ATS readability test, that file has no business being uploaded to an external server.

By handling the parsing and compression entirely inside the browser via JavaScript:

  1. Zero Privacy Risk: Your files never leave your device's local memory. You can open your browser's Network inspector (F12) while running a scan and verify that zero file payloads are transmitted.
  2. Zero Server Compute Costs = Truly Free: Because my server isn't paying for cloud GPU/CPU cycles to process every PDF, I don't have to put up login walls, watermarks, or "1 free scan per day" limits.

What You Can Test Right Now (No Login Required)

If you are currently job hunting or building solo projects, give Readback a spin with your resume and let me know in the comments if any specific layout or font trips up the parser!
