Green Taxation refers to taxing products based on the sustainability of the resources used in building that product. Products that utilize less sustainable resources must be taxed more than the products that utilize more sustainable sources. Why should we do this? It is because achieving a circular economy would not be possible if we completely let free market forces to determine the price of products. There needs to be a higher entity (government) that has the best interests of everyone in mind and tax less sustainable products. This signals the market to move towards being circular. For the government to identify the resource utilization of these products it needs to monitor the end to end process that companies use to develop there products. This is where IOT helps. The rise of edge computing and cloud has allowed the proliferation of sensors and intelligence on edge. I look forward to publishing more content on this topic. Thank you for reading.
