From the trenches of app design

From the author of Start with features, not apps: Skip the small stuff early on—like those tempting typefaces and intricate icons. They can wait!

Start with simple sketches or basic wireframes. Seriously, nothing fancy—just enough to get your ideas down. Make it about laying down the structure and avoid the temptation of getting lost in aesthetics. (Guilty as charged).

Wireframe

Stick to designing in grayscale first. This little trick forces you to hone in on spacing, contrast, and overall layout without getting distracted by colors. Keep it as monochrome as Charlie until you nail what's important.

Colorless
