Highest IQ in the World
Search engines are full of lists claiming to identify the person with the highest IQ in the world.
But there's an interesting data problem behind these rankings.
IQ scores aren't all generated using the same test, scale or methodology.
For example, Marilyn vos Savant's famous reported IQ of 228 came from a childhood Stanford-Binet assessment and was historically recognized by Guinness. Guinness later retired its highest-IQ category because scores at the extreme end weren't reliably comparable.
That means comparing:
IQ 180 vs IQ 200 vs IQ 250
isn't necessarily as meaningful as an internet ranking makes it appear.
Mensa explains that IQ is a standardized score based on comparison with a norm group.
So when researching the world's smartest people, it's useful to separate documented test results from estimates and popular claims.
