I started putting together a diagram of the factors that influence eye comfort and color reproduction.
There are so many factors either change or distort the perception experience:
- Color wavelength
- Contrast
- Brightness
- Screen panel type
- Individual eye characteristics
- Room lighting
- And many other factors
Every single one of these factors distorts how you perceive a color. The takeaway: An optimal theme can't just be static. It needs to adapt to your environment, eyes and hardware.
This makes it clear that, just as everything else in our world is individual, the theme should also adapt to a person’s individual characteristics, preferences, and external factors. Fixed color palette values, which we see in most color themes, are not optimal for real-world work.
