Technical SEO is where rankings quietly die

You can write great content, build clean backlinks, and still lose traffic to a canonical tag pointing at the wrong URL or 200 thin pages sitting in your index. The problem is that most audits surface hundreds of issues without telling you which ones actually matter.

SerpSpur Site Audit is built to cut through that. One crawl gives you the full picture: technical errors, indexing problems, metadata issues, broken links, and content quality signals, all tied back to pages you can actually fix.

Here's what I check first after any crawl, in order of impact:

  1. Indexing problems. Pages that should be indexed but aren't, or worse, pages that shouldn't be but are. A stray noindex from a staging deploy is a silent traffic killer.

  2. Missing or duplicate metadata. Title tags and meta descriptions that are empty, truncated, or duplicated across dozens of pages. Duplicate titles split relevance and confuse crawlers about which page targets a keyword.

  3. Broken internal links. These waste crawl budget and leak link equity. Easy to find programmatically:

python
import requests
from bs4 import BeautifulSoup

url = "https://yoursite.com/blog/post"
html = requests.get(url).text
soup = BeautifulSoup(html, "html.parser")

for a in soup.find_all("a", href=True):
link = a["href"]
if link.startswith("/"):
link = "https://yoursite.com" + link
try:
if requests.head(link, timeout=5).status_code >= 400:
print(f"BROKEN: {link}")
except requests.RequestException:
print(f"UNREACHABLE: {link}")

  1. Thin content. Pages under a few hundred words with no clear search intent. These drag down site quality signals and often cannibalize stronger pages.

The honest framing: an audit tool is only useful if you act on the output. Pick the top ten issues by traffic impact, fix them, re-crawl, and confirm. Repeat monthly.
