Hacktoberfest: Contribution Chronicles

We’re October Grinch—Abhishek Bharathi, Aadithya Ram, Aadidev, and Sanjay S M—and we’re building Waterline for Hacktoberfest Hack Day — Coimbatore 2026.
During floods, photos and messages can arrive without enough context to support response decisions. Waterline brings citizen reports, location information, AI-assisted analysis, and response coordination into one application.
Our project has four main features:

  • Citizen reporting: Submit photos and location details.
  • Office administration: Manage residents, review reports, and issue alerts.
  • Intelligence: Combine Gemma image analysis through the Gemini API with physics-based assessments.
  • Response operations: Coordinate responders, assignments, and field updates. Built with Python, FastAPI, and SQLite, the prototype includes protected operator dashboards and a public reporting portal. When AI analysis fails, reports go to manual review. SMS delivery is currently simulated, and the project is still a prototype. We’re now focusing on deployment, workflow testing, and usability improvements.
