Everything started after the pandemic, when remote work became the new normal. During that same period, I moved to a new city and country — Cochabamba, Bolivia — without knowing anyone.
Although many people say you can live in solitude, the truth is that we are social beings. And it was at that moment, far from my friends and family, that I felt it the most.
🚀 The Beginning of a Small but Great Community
One day I met Sergio, who shared my passion for technology — especially AWS. After some conversations, we decided to create a small community — just the two of us — where every two weeks we would present a new AWS topic.
Soon after, Gonzalo joined us, bringing a key perspective on how to make our initiative more visible. Thanks to him, we decided to formalize the group and apply to the AWS User Groups program. Along the way, we met Gustavo, a well-known AWS advocate with tons of experience, who inspired us to keep growing.
And that’s how the AWS User Group Cochabamba, in Bolivia, was officially born.
🌎 The Leap to Something Bigger
With the group already established, we learned that there was also an AWS User Group La Paz. Through them, I met incredible people who shared the same enthusiasm for learning.
Between conversations and dreams, an idea emerged:
🎯 to organize the first AWS Community Day Bolivia — a globally recognized event.
We took on the challenge, and with the support of amazing people like Mónica and Sara, the event became a huge success.
There, I met even more passionate people and realized that, for the first time, I was no longer a stranger in this land. I had a community, a support network, and most importantly, a reason to keep growing.
🌴 New Beginnings, Same Passion
Some time later, I had to move again — not to another country, but to a completely different city: Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
(By the way, despite its name, there’s no “sierra” here at all… it’s pure jungle! 😄).
Once again, I found myself feeling disconnected and alone — until someone unexpected appeared: Max, a fellow Peruvian who came to Bolivia to strengthen AWS communities. His enthusiasm was contagious.
Through him, I met José, Luis, and Rodolfo, who invited me to join the initiative to create a new community in Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
And just like in Cochabamba, we reignited the spark of collaboration and learning.
💬 The Power of a Community
Later came the second AWS Community Day Bolivia, this time in Cochabamba.
It was amazing to reunite with friends from other communities, share experiences, and strengthen our connections.
I also had the chance to meet international AWS advocates who inspired me to keep growing.
💛 In Conclusion
Being part of the AWS community has truly changed my life.
It allowed me to connect with wonderful people, keep learning, and feel at home, no matter where I am.
Today, I can proudly say that community is much more than technology —
it’s family, support, and purpose.
📣 P.S.: It’s official! 🎉
A new community is born: AWS User Group Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
Exciting things are coming! ☁️💪
