While OS development is an excellent learning project, we must realistically assess the scale of the task and its market prospects.
OS development is essentially the creation of an entire software ecosystem, requiring the integration of numerous low- and high-level components (kernel, drivers, network services, system utilities). Starting from scratch is an extremely labor-intensive process.
Furthermore, financial returns are unlikely. The monetization model for open source projects is often limited, and the competitive landscape is dominated by mature, established products. Without a clear strategy to justify users' abandonment of current OSes, investing in such a project will not be justified in terms of ROI (return on investment).
