Adding your own picture on linkedin/portfolio site?

Is it possible to have a successful career as a freelance/remote developer without adding your real picture on any professional platform?

Maybe you don't like having your picture out there in the wild....

Maybe you don't want to be discriminated based on nationality, gender, race etc but be awarded jobs based on your skill set......

Have you ever gotten a job without the employer knowing how you look like?

I had the same problem and I finally decided to upload a photo of myself kind of far from the camera. It's clear enough so people who know me can recognise me. I believe in LinkedIn it helps to have a real photograph, people trust you more.

I commissioned an artist several years ago to create the avatar I have here. I do have a few real photos of myself kicking around if you Google me, but this avatar is what I use on my twitter/dev.to/portfolio. Hasn't stopped me getting a job so far :)

I don't think a photo is necessary on profiles and CVs.

But I wouldn't know how to judge an applicant without meeting them in person or at least a video-call (to respond to the "look like" part).

It's nice to know that i don't have to put my picture out there, i prefer having my picture on tinder only :)
