Timeline

  • 2026-11-06: Musk announced on X that Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas will wind down around the middle of next year (Wired).
  • 2026-11-06: Tesla raised US Cybertruck prices by up to 10% and stopped taking orders for the base Dual Motor AWD trim (Electrek).

Details (as Reported)

The Cybertruck is made only at Gigafactory Texas, which Wired describes as apparently the only Tesla facility equipped with the machinery for the truck's stainless steel body (Wired). Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill wrote on X that the truck “was an incredible technology development platform and lives on through Cybercab” (Wired). TechCrunch reports the decision makes the Cybertruck the third product Tesla has discontinued, after the Model S and Model X (TechCrunch).

On pricing, Electrek lists the Dual Motor AWD at $82,490, up from $74,990 and no longer orderable, the Premium AWD at $92,490, and the Cyberbeast at $102,490 (Electrek). The outlet puts the cheapest orderable Cybertruck at $92,490 (Electrek). Electrek describes the price move as coming after Tesla confirmed the end of production, while Wired, citing EVWire, reports that Musk's post came about 80 minutes after the price rise and order pause (Electrek; Wired).

Electrek reports that its “Other Models” category fell 48% year over year to 8,295 units in Q3 2026, and estimates that 7,000 to 8,000 of those were Cybertrucks (Electrek). Engadget reports Tesla has sold around 71,000 Cybertrucks since deliveries began in late 2023, against a projection of 250,000 per year (Engadget). Wired reports the truck shifted less than 50,000 units by March last year (Wired).

TechCrunch reports Tesla plans to expand Cybercab operations from Austin to Dallas later this month (TechCrunch). Engadget notes a current federal investigation into the Cybercab (Engadget).

What Is Not Yet Confirmed

  • Whether production will end altogether or move to another location (Engadget).
  • How long Tesla will keep selling inventory, and what happens to parts and service for existing owners (Electrek).
  • Tesla's response to Wired's request for comment on whether the Cybertruck will no longer be made at all (Wired).
