For the past 3 years, I have been experimenting with cloud computing with a heavy focus on AWS as the cloud provider, and initially, due to my frequent interaction with AWS I had planned to get certified as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.
A tech career was not my initial calling but a few years ago in the year 2021 I got an interest in tech and along the way, I have faced some challenges like the motivation to keep on going, lack of a mentor,r and an unstructured way of learning.
I have also been applying to get accepted to The Ajira Digital AWS re/Start Program, a collaborative initiative between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Kenya's Ajira Digital Program which is a full-time, 12-week training program designed to equip unemployed or underemployed individuals with foundational cloud computing skills, preparing them for entry-level roles in the tech industry.
The Ajira Digital AWS re/Start program covers foundational cloud computing skills, IT fundamentals, and hands-on AWS training. It begins with core IT concepts such as Linux basics, networking (IP addressing, DNS, TCP/IP), security fundamentals (firewalls, IAM, encryption), and programming with Python. Participants then dive into AWS cloud services, learning about cloud computing models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), AWS global infrastructure (Regions, Availability Zones), and key AWS services, including EC2 for compute, S3 for storage, RDS and DynamoDB for databases, VPC for networking, and IAM for security management. The program also includes hands-on labs where learners practice deploying AWS resources, automating tasks using AWS CLI and Python, and optimizing cloud costs. Beyond technical skills, participants receive career coaching, resume-building support, and interview preparation. The course concludes with preparation for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) exam, including practice tests and real-world scenarios, equipping graduates for entry-level cloud and IT support roles.
