How I Drive Free Traffic to My Gumroad Store
Running digital products without an audience is hard. Here's what actually moves the needle.
The 3-channel stack
1. Reddit — Answer questions, not spam
Search for questions about your topic. Answer genuinely. Mention your product only if directly relevant. Consistent click-throughs from comments that never link the store — just solid advice that makes people curious.
2. Dev.to — SEO content that compounds
Articles here rank on Google. One article drives passive traffic for months. The compounding effect takes 3-4 weeks to kick in but then it's free.
3. Static blog with sitemap.xml
60 articles deployed to surge.sh (free hosting). Google is indexing them. Long-tail keywords bring visitors already in buyer mode.
What doesn't work for me
- Cold DMs: banned accounts, zero conversions
- Facebook ads without warm audience: burning money
- Twitter alone: too much noise, too little purchase intent
The math
Free traffic takes longer but converts better. Someone who found you by Googling "notion template for freelancers" is 5x more likely to buy than someone who saw an ad.
