HEX Down Nearly 30%: A Case Study in Founder Risk

Developers and traders both got a clean, if painful, lesson from HEX this week: a network can keep running perfectly while its token collapses.

HEX dropped almost 30% in a day to roughly $0.0006, losing about $160 million in market value and landing near a $340 million market cap. The code did not break. The chain did not halt. The news was human.

Turkish outlets reported that founder Richard Schueler, widely known as Richard Heart, had been detained in Istanbul with his wife, and that devices, hardware wallets, jewellery and firearms were seized in the operation. Important caveat: at publication time these are media reports; neither Turkish nor Finnish officials had confirmed them in the initial coverage.

The market's fast reaction still makes sense given the file traders already had on him. Finnish authorities have pursued Schueler over alleged tax fraud and assault, and an Interpol Red Notice dates back nearly two years. His separate US case ended in dismissal in February 2025, when a judge threw out the SEC's lawsuit and the agency later opted not to refile.

Notice what else moved: PulseChain and PulseX, the sibling tokens in the same founder-led ecosystem, fell sharply as holders headed for the exit. Thin liquidity plus concentrated trust is a fragile mix.

For builders, the takeaway writes itself — the more an ecosystem's credibility rests on one person, the more a single headline becomes a system-wide event.

Until officials speak, treat this as an unconfirmed, fast-moving story.
