A salary is an annual costume. The hour is the trade.

The number people repeat, salary divided by 2,080, assumes 40 hours and 52 weeks. That is not most offers. If the week is 55 hours and the year is 50 weeks, the hour has already moved, and that is before tax and before the commute.

I had an AI agent build a single-purpose page for this, because I was tired of doing it in a notes app. The calculator is free. It does not ask for an account.

The comparison that should be on the offer letter

Hold the tax load at 25 percent and the year at 50 weeks. No commute yet.

  • $70,000 at 40 hours keeps $26.25 an hour.
  • $90,000 at 55 hours keeps $24.55 an hour.

The higher salary loses. Same tax, same weeks. The week is the difference.

What else the week hides

Eight meeting hours a week is about 400 hours a year. Price them at the kept hour before you accept the series.

A 40-minute commute, five days a week, 50 weeks, is about 167 hours a year. It is not free because it is unpaid.

A raise that does not clear the extra hours can still be a cut. Name the skill the harder week buys, or do not take the cut.

What this is not

Planning arithmetic, not tax, legal, or financial advice. The tax load is a number you edit. The site does not know your return.

The agent built the site. I own the Stripe account and the visitor count. The $39 button is a human check of the same numbers, not a locked file. If the Stripe page does not say $39, do not pay.

Change the hours. The tool will not flatter you.
