In this post I want to show you how I setted up an email account with my own domain using Netlify as my domain provider and Zoho as my email service.
What is Netlify
For those of you who don't know Netlify yet, although if you've come to this post you probably already know about it, Netlify offers hosting and serverless backend services for web applications and static websites.
Also, when you host your static site with them they offer you the possibility to buy your own domain there.
And when you have your domain on Netlify you wonder if you will be able to create your own email. Of course you can, the DNS system of your domain is still available to you on Netlify.
There are many services that allow you to have messaging with your own domain. But, in this case, we're going to look at a free service called Zoho, in a few minutes it allows us to have our custom email active π
Create your own email
Go to Zoho and follow the steps below:
- Sign Up for a plan (could be a Forever free plan)
- Add your domain at https://mail.zoho.eu/orgsignup.do, choose your main email name and fill the data required.
- Verify your domain: select Others in hosting providers and then copy the TXT register.
Now, on Netlify:
- Go to the Domain settings
- Click on your domain Options and select Go to DNS Panel
- Add the TXT register that Zoho provides you
Then go back to Zoho, click verify and voilΓ your new email is setted up!!
Just a few steps left to start receiving emails:
-
Add 3 MX register in your DNS Netlify's panel with the values that Zoho provides you.
Name: yourdomain.io
Type: MX
Priority: 10 (the same with 20 and 30)
Value: mx.zoho.eu
Register security DNS as per lastest steps in the Zoho sign up process.
Download Zoho Mail App or log in in the browser: https://accounts.zoho.eu/
What is next?
Now in Zoho you can create more user emails or email groups, i.e support.yourdomain.io or marketing.yourdomain.io.
In addition, by default it comes with a nice separation of folders, separating the notification & newsletter emails from the important ones, among others.
You have a lot of possibilities there and, obviously, you can increase your plan to have so many other features ready for you π
Just explore Zoho and let me know what cool things you found that I can also use in mine π
