I have put about 50 hours into Arms of God since the Early Access launch in June. It is a bullet heaven roguelite by solo dev Dark Jay Studio — think Vampire Survivors but with actual build depth and a metal soundtrack that goes way harder than it needs to.
After dying to the Act 3 boss four times in a row, I got annoyed and did what any reasonable person would do: I catalogued every single weapon in the game. All 60 of them. Damage types, attack patterns, merge potential, character synergies, unlock conditions — the whole spreadsheet.
Here is what I found.
The tier list in 30 seconds
There are 60 weapons across three damage types (Holy, Fire, Shock). Most of them are fine. Some are incredible. A few are genuinely useless.
S-tier (build-defining): Seraphs Judgment, Sanctified Buzzsaw, Infernal Repeater, Hellfire Magnum, Stormcaller
D-tier (merge fodder): Wooden Stake, Tinderbox, Spark Plug, Rusty Pistol, Training Sword
Everything else falls somewhere in the middle. But the tier list only tells you what is strong — it does not tell you why. And the "why" is where things get interesting.
The merge system is the real game
This is the part the tutorial barely explains. You carry 5 weapons. When you pick up a new one, you can either equip it or merge it into an existing weapon. Merging sacrifices the donor and transfers its stats to the target.
The hidden mechanics:
- Same-element merge bonus: Fire into fire gets extra projectiles. Lightning into lightning expands chain range. Holy into holy adds pierce. I figured this out around hour 20 and it completely changed my runs.
- Rarity matters: Legendary donor = roughly 75% stat transfer. Common donor = roughly 60%. That gap widens with each merge.
- The game steers your drops: If you are holding mostly fire weapons, fire weapons drop more often. You can manipulate RNG by committing to an element early.
The single most important merge in any run: get AoE or spread onto a rapid-fire weapon by level 15. If you have not done this by the mid-boss, you are going to struggle.
5 weapons that are secretly broken
Holy Water Sprinkler — On paper it does 4-6 damage per tick. Garbage, right? But it ticks 20 times per second and applies a 5% Weakened chance per tick. In 3 seconds, everything on screen has -30% damage output. This weapon alone is why The Paladin can face-tank Act 4.
Brimstone Pistols — Nobody uses these as a primary weapon. They are the best fire rate merge donor in the game. Merge into Hellfire Magnum and the reload time drops from 2.1s to roughly 1.6s. That is a 24% DPS increase from a weapon you were going to sacrifice anyway.
Tesla Coil — The only deployable weapon. Drop it, walk away, it kills things. Does not consume ammo. Works independently of your other 4 weapons. Boss fight MVP because it keeps doing damage while you are dodging.
Flame Lance — Every 3rd melee thrust fires a projectile that inherits all your melee merge stats. Merge range into this and you effectively have a ranged weapon scaling off melee damage. The Paladin with this setup is hilarious.
Shock Dagger — Fastest attack speed in the game at 4/sec. Terrible as a weapon. Incredible as an attack speed merge donor for Sanctified Buzzsaw or Thunderstrike Gauntlets. Speedrunner tool.
Character-weapon pairings that outperform the tier list
A weapons tier rating changes depending on who is holding it. The Inquisitors +25% fire damage passive turns B-tier fire weapons into A-tier. The Stormcallers chain count passive makes Stormcaller chain to 5+ targets instead of 4 — that is a 25% DPS increase from one passive.
The Zealot with Hellfire Magnum has the highest damage ceiling in the game because the missing-HP damage ramp synergizes perfectly with a weapon that one-shots elites. But you need near-perfect drops to survive the early game on a glass cannon build.
If you want consistency, Holy weapons on The Paladin. Sanctified Buzzsaw gives 360-degree melee coverage. Holy Water Sprinkler debuffs everything that gets close. You will not set speed records but you will actually finish runs.
What is actually worth your time
I built a full guide at armsofgodgame.com with the complete weapon tier list, merge combo calculator, boss strategies, and build recommendations for all 8 characters. If you are tired of dying to the Archon of Storms or want to know which blessings are actually worth taking, it is all there.
The game is in Early Access with the 1.0 release planned for Q4 2026 or Q1 2027. Console ports coming with 1.0. For a solo developer project at its current price, the depth-to-cost ratio is genuinely absurd.
What is your go-to weapon combo? I am still trying to make Firecracker Launcher work and failing miserably.
