Trending repos are easy to star and hard to actually use. Here are five that are climbing GitHub this week, each with one concrete thing you can do with it and the exact steps to get there.
Steps come from each project's README. Review them before you run anything, especially commands that install software or take API keys.
1. yetone/magpie: run Claude Code on DeepSeek instead of Claude
magpie is a local gateway and menu bar app that lets agents like Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI use models from many providers, with routing and failover.
Time: about 30 minutes. Level: intermediate.
- Install magpie:
curl -fsSL https://usemagpie.ai/install.sh | sh(or download the app). - Add your provider key:
magpie provider add deepseek sk-...with your own key. - Point Claude Code at it:
magpie claude deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro - Start a new Claude Code session. It now answers from DeepSeek.
Watch out: magpie only edits the model key in the agent's config, so the agent must read its model from that file.
Full steps and a copy-paste agent prompt
2. Gathin23/cleanyourtv: a clean, ad-free Android TV home screen
A project that disables bloat on Android TV and Google TV over Wi-Fi with ADB and installs a custom launcher. No root, nothing uninstalled.
Time: about 15 minutes. Level: intermediate.
- On the TV: Settings, Device Preferences, About, press OK on Build seven times, then turn on USB debugging in Developer options.
- Keep the TV on the same Wi-Fi as your computer.
- Paste the repo's
PROMPT.mdinto Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI and fill in your TV model. - Accept "Allow USB debugging?" on the TV and answer the checklist (apps, dock apps, voice assistant, Chromecast, updates).
- Check the screenshots the assistant pulls from the TV and confirm the new home screen is the default.
Watch out: bloat differs by brand, and some China-market TCL sets refuse any launcher.
3. deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness: start the DSH web UI with one command
DeepSeek Harness (dsh) is an open source agent harness where everything is a plugin, with a local web UI.
Time: about 15 minutes. Level: beginner.
- Install Node.js.
- Read
SAFETY.mdin the repo and accept the safety notice. - Run
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web - Prefer no auto-opened browser? Run
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web --no-openand openhttp://127.0.0.1:3080yourself.
Watch out: it is a developer preview and the README warns about breaking changes.
4. google/artemis: run an Android phone test from your AI IDE chat
ARTEMIS turns natural language instructions into automated tests and tasks on real Android phones and emulators.
Time: about 30 minutes. Level: intermediate.
git clone https://github.com/google/artemis.git && cd artemis- Connect an Android device with USB debugging on, or start an emulator.
- Run
./start.sh(macOS or Linux) or.\start.bat(Windows PowerShell) and accept the prompt to install the MCP config. - Optional:
uv run artemis mcp --install allto set up every supported AI IDE. - In your AI IDE chat, describe the test in plain language: which account to use and what to check on the final screen.
Watch out: Cursor and Windsurf need the rules file added by hand.
5. wheresryan22/anatomy: explain a technical concept as an interactive page
Anatomy is an agent skill that turns a technical idea into an interactive isometric figure built from physical parts, as HTML, SVG, WebGL or 3D.
Time: about 30 minutes. Level: intermediate.
- Install the skill for Claude Code:
npx skills add wheresryan22/anatomy -g -a claude-code - In a session, run
/anatomy explain how a token bucket rate limiter works, interactivewith your own concept. - Give real numbers (sizes, rates, thresholds) so the readout matches your system.
- Open the generated
.htmlfile and hover the parts to check the motion. - Save a preview:
node scripts/capture.mjs page.html --out shots/page.png
Watch out: the skill invents the physical metaphor, so check it matches how your system really behaves.
