What's Your 2022 Highlight Reel?

We're closing out the 2022 year, so it's a great time for reflection. What are you most proud of over the last year? Where have you made progress? What projects are on your highlight reel?

I had to fill out my contributions recently, and it was a longer list than I expected. In some ways I feel like my impact is minimal, in others I'm amazed.

I guess my highlights would be all the conference talks. Being able to speak in person at my home conference the first time and travelling to some very special events in neighboring communities. I think it wasn't even the actual talks I'm proud of, but the opportunities to chat with other bubbles of people and get to know them and invest briefly in them.

I also grew a blog and YouTube channel around data science and launched a new blog on software engineering. All of those are in a state that I would call them healthy and growing, but not exactly successful (though AccessibleAI.dev has a steady amount of growing metrics.

One thing that I'm particularly proud of is that I was paid for my opinions on data science for the first time instead of just software engineering, albeit just through trickling passive income on Medium and not yet any paid written content on the topic.

Finally, I'm a student again, as well as a teacher, and am happy to share that I've kept my 4.0 through the year and am now 3 / 8 of my way to the master's degree and should get my graduate certificate in the spring at the halfway marker.

You had an AMAZING year. It's amazing, that feeling of getting paid for what you've been doing. Extra recognition and you deserve it.

Thank you! I didn't even list my best accomplishment: 170 people are in or entering tech partially because of my teaching efforts. But I'm also directly paid for those efforts, so it sort of feels like "cheating".
