What happened

Anthropic filed an updated S-1 with the SEC on November 2, 2026, carrying financials through September 30. TechCrunch reviewed the filing on November 3. Quarterly revenue reached $17 billion, up from $11.5 billion in the previous revision of the S-1. Revenue is growing steeply. The cost side of the same filing is growing faster, and the gap between the two curves is the real story for AI infrastructure planning.

How the numbers stack

Compute now accounts for 58 percent of revenue, against 48 percent a quarter earlier. The compute bill runs $10 billion per quarter, of which $5.0 billion is compute under short-term commitments, which cost significantly more than multi-year arrangements. Revenue generated per each $1 of compute spend has fallen from a peak of just above 2x to 1.72x. All figures come from the filing as covered by TechCrunch, which here retells the primary SEC document.

What it says about lab economics

The ratio matters more than any single line item. When compute absorbs 58 cents of each revenue dollar, margin depends less on pricing and more on how efficiently each contracted GPU hour converts into billable output. The rising share of short-term commitments also changes planning. Capacity bought on short contracts must earn revenue within months, so demand forecasting errors surface as balance-sheet items rather than as slow write-offs spread over years.

IMPACT

The counterbalance belongs in any reading of the filing. Moving from $11.5 billion to $17 billion in quarterly revenue within one revision cycle is steep growth by any industry standard, and the filing does not say the model is broken. The open question it poses for AI labs and infrastructure planners is where the equilibrium sits. Revenue and compute are scaling at once, and revenue per compute dollar, now 1.72x after sliding from above 2x, is the number that shows whether the two curves converge.
