Kakao released Kanana-2-v-decide, a decision model for AI agents

On November 6, 2026 Kakao published Kanana-2-v-decide on Hugging Face under the Kanana Open License, which permits commercial use. The release treats judgment as its own component class for agent pipelines: instead of generating sentences, the model returns probabilities, choices and scores, so an agent system can make a call and continue the task without waiting on free-form text.

What the model does

Kanana-2-v-decide is built on Kakao's multimodal Kanana-2-v-3b model. The output format is the difference from a chat model: it skips sentence generation and emits structured decision values that downstream code can read directly. Per Kakao, average response time stays within 0.04 seconds on a single Nvidia H200, which the company measures as about 43 times faster than GPT-6 Luna. On the vendor-run Kanana Decision Bench, a set of 15,909 Korean-language questions, and on the public Decision Index, Kakao reports the highest scores among the compared models, ahead of Microsoft Decision-1, Typesafe Zeb and Upstage Solar Decide. Both results are vendor measurements, so independent verification is still pending.

Where it fits

Routing, scoring and choice steps are the natural use cases. A router that sends each request to the right model or tool, a scorer that ranks candidate outputs, and a chooser that picks one option from a small set all consume exactly the structured format this model emits. Swapping sentence generation for a decision call on those steps removes latency from the hot path of an agent loop and keeps the larger model focused on the parts of the task that actually need language.

IMPACT

In practice, most steps in a production agent pipeline are not prose. Sending a request to the right tool, scoring candidate answers, choosing between options, running yes-or-no checks - these are decisions, and waiting for generated sentences on each of them adds latency and cost to every iteration. A decision model can serve those steps as a compact component while a larger model handles the narrative parts of the workflow. Because the Kanana Open License permits commercial use, teams can evaluate it inside production-shaped pipelines without license friction. The open question is how decision quality holds up outside the Korean-language benchmarks where the published comparisons were run, and how the model behaves alongside a general-purpose model in the same loop.

Independent confirmation: the Hugging Face model card kakaocorp/kanana-2-v-decide-3b-2611 lists the November 6 release, the Kanana-2-v-3b base, the probability-based no-text-generation output and the KananaOpenLicense, and Korean outlets report the same 0.04 second and 43x figures.
