| Eloquent JavaScript | Marijn Haverbeke | 472 | javascript |
1. Learning JavaScript Design Patterns
By Addy Osmani · 530 pages
Addy Osmani (Chrome team at Google) updated his classic design patterns book for modern JavaScript and React. The book covers classical patterns (Singleton, Observer, Mediator, Factory) adapted for ES modules, plus modern patterns specific to React (Hooks patterns, Higher-Order Components, Render Props, Islands Architecture).
The 2nd edition is essentially a new book. If you bought the original, upgrade — the React and rendering pattern chapters are excellent.
2. Eloquent JavaScript
By Marijn Haverbeke · 472 pages
Eloquent JavaScript is the best introduction to programming through JavaScript. The 4th edition covers modern JS (ES2023+), the browser DOM, Node.js, and even builds a small programming language as a learning exercise.
The best beginner JavaScript book, period. Haverbeke strikes the perfect balance between teaching programming fundamentals and JavaScript specifics.
