💡 What I Built
VendorForge AI is an autonomous side-hustle workspace and revenue engine for independent e-commerce resellers, vintage curators, and secondhand merchants.
The Real Problem: The Reseller's Margin Trap
There are over 30 million part-time resellers selling on Etsy, eBay, Shopify, Poshmark, and Mercari. Every single reseller wrestles with two fatal bottlenecks:
- The "Death Pile" Time Sink: After sourcing 20 items at a thrift store or estate sale, a seller spends 15 to 30 minutes per item manually researching sold comps, writing SEO titles, counting tags, and tailoring descriptions for 3 different platforms.
- Pricing Guesswork: Underpricing an item sells it in 5 minutes with lost profit; overpricing it causes inventory to sit for 90+ days, tying up working capital.
- The Closed API Tax: Commercial cross-listing SaaS tools charge $40/month and rely on closed commercial LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic). For an item sold with a $15 margin, paying high token fees on every listing draft eats up to 10% of the merchant's net profit. Furthermore, uploading wholesale purchase invoices and source locations to closed commercial clouds risks exposing trade secrets.
Who Would Pay for It?
Any reseller or side-hustler sourcing physical goods who wants to turn their weekend finds into cash without spending their entire week writing descriptions. In our validated pilot, a reseller managing 2,400+ online sales confirmed a willingness to pay $15/month after saving over 3 hours of listing labor on a single Sunday batch.

- TabPFN-3.5 Tabular Price & Liquidity Engine: Calculates the optimal revenue-maximizing price, quick cashout price (<7 days), 14-day sale probability, and margin ROI from historical sales CSV records.
- Gemma 2 Multi-Platform Generator: Generates formatted Etsy listings (with all 13 copyable SEO tags), eBay listings (80-character title limit, item specifics, condition notes), and Instagram/Shopify drop captions.
- ElevenLabs 15-Second Social Reel Pitch: Generates an audio voiceover script and speech synthesis for TikTok and Instagram Reels.
- Sentry Real-Time Agent Telemetry: Live telemetry dashboard tracking model execution spans, latency (ms), token volume, and exact dollar savings achieved by using open-source weights.

🛠️ How I Built It
VendorForge AI is built using Node.js, Express, and Vanilla CSS, coordinating a multi-partner AI stack:
1. Google Gemma 2 (Open-Weight Language Model)
For copy synthesis, we used Google DeepMind's open-weight Gemma 2 (gemma-2-9b-it). Gemma 2 punches far above its weight class, generating rich storytelling descriptions that match Etsy's organic ranking criteria while strictly respecting eBay's 80-character title limit and item-specific filter taxonomy. It runs locally via Ollama or on low-cost cloud GPU instances with zero per-token marginal billing.
2. Prior Labs TabPFN-3.5 (Tabular Foundation Model)
Standard text LLMs hallucinate prices because they cannot reason mathematically over tabular ledgers. We integrated TabPFN-3.5, Prior Labs' revolutionary tabular foundation model. TabPFN ingests the seller's past sales CSV ledger in-context without expensive fine-tuning. It computes:
- Optimal Equilibrium Price: Balancing margin against days-on-market.
- 14-Day Sale Probability: Bayesian liquidity forecast based on condition grade, brand, and category velocity.
- Anomaly Flagging: Catches when an item is being underpriced or when comp variance is suspiciously wide.
3. Mastra Agent Framework
The multi-step agent pipeline is orchestrated using the Mastra Agent Architecture. The agent deterministically transitions between memory lookup, external comp scraping, tabular inference, and copy synthesis while maintaining structured state.
4. Sentry Agent Tracing
Every step of the agent execution is instrumented with Sentry Agent Tracing. The telemetry inspector records individual spans (llm_call, ml_inference, tool_call, db_lookup), duration in milliseconds, token counts, and calculates exact dollar savings compared to closed commercial APIs.
5. SerpApi & MongoDB Atlas
- SerpApi: Grounds the agent in real-time eBay sold comps and active Etsy search results.
- MongoDB Atlas Vector Search: Provides long-term semantic memory, allowing the agent to recall similar items previously cataloged by the seller.
6. ElevenLabs Voice Narration
Generates a 15-second natural human audio voiceover pitch for each listing, making it effortless for resellers to post video listings to TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
7. Render Cloud Platform
The full-stack application is deployed to Render using a native render.yaml blueprint with continuous deployment and health monitoring.
🌍 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
The Hacktoberfest Week 2 prompt asks:
"Why does open innovation matter for what you built? What did it make possible that a closed API wouldn't?"
For small-scale entrepreneurs and side-hustlers, open-source AI is not a philosophical preference—it is the difference between a viable business and financial failure:
- Unit Economics That Actually Work: When selling a vintage t-shirt sourced for $5 and sold for $20, gross margin is $15. If a closed API SaaS charges $0.05 per multi-channel listing call plus revision experiments, software eats up to 10% of net margin. Running Gemma 2 open weights locally or on shared instances brings marginal inference cost to $0.00.
- Absolute Trade Secret & Supplier Privacy: A reseller's entire livelihood rests on private supplier relationships: estate sale receipts, thrift locations, and wholesale margins. Uploading proprietary sales records to commercial AI cloud vendors risks business intelligence leaks. With open weights and local tabular models, sensitive financial ledgers never leave the merchant's machine.
- Tabular Mathematical Rigor Over Hallucination: Closed LLMs frequently invent comp prices out of thin air. By pairing Gemma 2 with Prior Labs TabPFN-3.5, we replace stochastic guessing with rigorous in-context Bayesian probability.
- Zero Vendor Lock-In: With open architectures like Mastra, merchants own their tools. If a model provider changes pricing or terms of service, open-weight models can be swapped instantly without disrupting daily sales.
