It helps to have a hypothesis going in that you can evaluate against. Success is usually relative to expectations, not an absolute number.
Totally agree, Ben. In my opinion, impact is measured by evaluating whether our solutions meet or exceed our expectations. This includes improvements in user experience, software efficiency, and positive contribution to the tech community. I believe that success goes beyond numbers; it's about innovating and adding real value to the industry.
My favorite metric is "manhour saved compared to current solution."
It is one of my main metrics to justify price of custom app.
It is also easily understood by finance/accounting folks.
For open source setting, it helps justify the prioritization.
