I have a PhD on Astrophysics, finished in 2012. There were tools to analyse images or perform rudimentary data analysis back then, but some programming skills were already required.
In 2005, concepts like data science, machine learning and Python/R weren't the hot topics they are today.
So, for the analysis I wanted to perform (estimating distances to galaxies from their "colour" alone), I had to write, from scratch, a machine learning code in C++!
Following instructions from a robotics scientific article, I wrote a 'weighted kd-tree' code. Today, I'm a Python coder and data scientist. But I credit my current 'intuition' on these matters ever since that time! 🙂
Frontend developer and Dev Mod -
My goal is to inspire others to create inclusive platforms through my articles.
Outside coding, I enjoy traveling and mountain climbing.
whoa, i crave for this kind of versatile knowledge you have on science to be able to estimate distance between galaxies from their color,, that is really amazing
