What was your win this week?

Michael Tharrington on February 09, 2024

Hey y'all ๐Ÿ‘‹ Another week down โ€” hope it's been a good one for ya! Looking back on this past week, what's something you are proud of accomplishing...

Giving myself a mental reset. My boss and his boss were both fired on Tuesday morning quite unexpectedly. On the home front, I took a step back from coding and working on my education, and just let myself relax for a the week. TV, reading, and the gym. Just letting myself let go of everything.

It's been good. My stress levels are lower than they were before this all went down. So Saturday, I'm going to go ahead and dig back in to my personal project and my coursework.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like a challenging time.

That said, nicely handled and way to keep things into perspective โ€” good on ya for keeping the stress levels despite things being rocky. I hope everything smooths out at work. Or, if you find that it's time to move on to somewhere else, that you are able to make that happen with ease. Digging into the personal project and coursework sounds like good stuff.

Wishing ya the best, Dan!

  • Finished the first basic version of my website.

  • Made two posts here on dev.to

I am happy about the progress I made this week. And finally got myself to write some articles. Been wanting to do this for a while but something was always stopping me.

They might not be great. But practice makes perfect.

Woot woot! Nice one, Thomas. I'm sure Astro appreciates it. I wonder if they might want to have an org here on DEV... ๐Ÿค”

I see we have a tag!

This is about Astro, the framework where you build faster websites with less client-side JavaScript.

After four months of jumping through hoops, finally getting traction on my initiative for a central logging server for our custom apps to be deployed to our on-prem virtualisation environment. After first being told "No" without reason or even communication, through the In Cloud or never, (never mind we've not had experience with that kind of cloud deployment before), investigating and discovering all the ways it can't work in a cloud deployment, or if it can, the cost would be prohibitive, through the gatekeepers slowing becoming less dogmatic on their directives, to this week finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel of an acceptance of my well researched original proposal.
It's petty and unhelpful but oh boy do I want to shout "I TOLD YOU SO!"
But I won't. I'll whisper it. ๐Ÿคซ

I wrote a small announcement about an extraordinary programming language.
here: dev.to/karol11/argentum-programmin...
and it got hardly 25 views for a whole day.
I was depressed.
Then I posted it on a regional Russian website and got 6000 views in 1 hour.
It turns out, it was not all about my work, it's just how articles are prioritized here.
What a relive :-)

A little late today, but I completed my major AI initiative for my client. My final model had an accuracy of 98% which out-performs their as-is system by a wide margin.

Also, I took and passed the Azure AI Vision skills assessment.

I've been busy developing a project starter template which includes an Angular client-side as well as an Express server.

So far it's been a huge time saver having a project with authentication, session management and a database connection plugged into it. All I need to do is edit the environment variables to my configuration wishes.

Since this weekend I can start new projects based on the starter template and just focus on my application logic instead of any authentication/session configuration.
