What was your win this week?

Hey folks πŸ‘‹

Hope that y'all all enjoy your weekends.

Looking back on this past week, what was something you were proud of accomplishing?

All wins count β€” big or small πŸŽ‰

Examples of 'wins' include:

  • Starting a new project
  • Fixing a tricky bug
  • Doing groundbreaking work in quantam computing 🀯

An anthropomorphized desktop computer with arms and legs dancing about in a silly way. The computer screen has a smile on it like a face and every now and then the face turns into the words "Analyze this."

Had a post that did nicely this week.

Had a panel rountable yesterday that went really nicely. Also had an interesting board meeting.

Finished the frontend mockup of my new startup and working on the server code now. This was a lot of pure JS with no framework to keep the size pretty small.

Congrats on the post! I started blogging this year just to get back into writing and most of my posts have flown under the radar, but my last post got included in a front-end dev roundup post and my stats have been way up for the week. Definitely an awesome feeling and a boost of motivation to write more posts.

I created an open-source automatic plant watering system for the Appwrite Hackathon.

It was also the first hackathon in which I collaborated with someone, and it was an amazing experience creating both the hardware and software for it.

As others on the DEV Team have said here, we had a seriously great work retreat this past week and got to meetup in person. It was an incredibly fun and rewarding time! And my teammates are all so dang awesome.

We did a wonderful mix of things, but one of the highlights for me was a video that our founders PBJ put together a video that showed different members of the community saying kind things about DEV and talking about how fun and important this community is to everybody. That really hit me in the feels. πŸ₯²

It reminded us all how many folks love & appreciate what we're trying to create. And also, because it zoomed in and showed individual community members talking (or messages from individuals), it really showed us how many cool, kind, and interesting community members we have at DEV. It's easy to get caught up in the work and forget about the individuals that you're building a product/community for, but seeing this video really put it all into perspective. I think everyone on the team felt the love watching it and we're all excited to be creating this space with you amazing folks. πŸ’š

I signed a book deal with Packt Publishing to write "Refactoring with C#" and got rough drafts done of the prologue and the first 2.5 chapters out of a total of 17.

Congrats, Matt! I know you know your stuff and I bet that's going to be a great book. If ya can share any excerpts here on DEV once it's ready, you know we'd love to see it.

Thank you! Packt lets me share up to 10% of the book online, so I may pick half of a couple of chapters to turn into articles and cross-post those here, though they'd definitely be commercials and plug for the book too.

Word up! Well, even though it's promotional for your book, I think that type of promotion is exactly the way to go about it here on DEV. We would most definitely welcome that. So, when the time comes, go for it!

I have been awarded the title of "Umbraco MVP". During Code Garden this week it was announced and they gifted me a little sculpture as a token of appreciation. The title is given to people who make a significant contribution to the Umbraco community. Be it by helping fellow Umbracians, writing blogs or contributing to the Umbraco source code.

Meeting my awesome, talented, eclectic, distributed remote work team in person this week was a total win! πŸŽ‰ It was so cool finally getting to meet (almost) everyone face-to-face, and we had a blast connecting and setting goals for our org's future. It was a great reminder of how important community is, even in a remote setup.
