I just got my CodeMentor profile approved and this reminded me of the first job I ever enjoyed. But first....

My very first job of sorts was helping my Dad at his motel. It was there that I learned my work ethic. Once he asked me to vacuum a room while he went somewhere. When he came back in 5 minutes he commented that he had watched me do the work from the window, and that he was pleased.

My first W2 job was as a grocery bagger at Winn Dixie when I was 15 and it was mind numbing. I remember calling in sick once on a Friday night to instead go to our high school football game. I'm pretty sure that was the beginning of the end ;)

The first job I enjoyed was a couple of years later, still in high school. It was to tutor a 7th grader who failed Math the previous year. We spent the first 5 minutes of each hour's lesson just talking, then we dove into the actual work.

He got a B+. Very gratifying.

Hey George! Fancy meeting you here!

My first paying job was doing IT for public school teachers. I didn’t have the maturity to appreciate it at the time, but it was definitely a great experience 😅
