Hacktoberfest 2024 Experience of a Java Developer and a Contributor

This is a submission for the 2024 Hacktoberfest Writing challenge: Contributor Experience

How it Started

To be honest, I don't know about the Hactoberfest challenge on DEV untill October 30 2024. Ofcourse, I'm writing posts on DEV and contributing for Java community. But I never noticed this challenge. I was busy with my new projects and assignments.

I'm from India and this month we have a festival of lights. It was a busy month for everyone in India. But somehow I managed to write posts and contribute to the community.

Projects and PRs:

I have worked on some simple open source projects and have done around 5 to 6 PRs throughout this year. I have joined some organizations that are openly available on GitHub.

For those who are new to GitHub and doesn't know where to contribute, there are a lot of open source projects and websites that accepts PRs for completing a simple task or additions.

Some open source projects where you can do PR:

  1. Awesome GitHub Profile
  2. EddieHubCommunity
  3. first-contribution
  4. You can find it by yourself

Side Quests and Community Engagement

One of the highlights of Hacktoberfest was the side quests and community engagement. I participated in various challenges that encouraged me to write technical articles, engage with the community on social media, and even create mini-projects. These side quests not only made the experience more enjoyable but also helped me improve my technical writing and communication skills.

I have added some valuable posts for Java enthusiasts and beginners who are learning Java. My profile has been listed on the top contributing Java authors list on DEV😎.

Top Java authors on DEV

This brings some kind of motivation and it encourages me to post more valuable contents. I'm constantly working on this and I will assure that I'll bring value to my contents and readers who trust me.

Daily Contributions

Not only this month but everyday, I made it a habit to push some code every day into my GitHub repo. This consistency turned my mornings into "What can I ship today?" moments, and it was amazing to see my contributions grow.

GitHub Contributions

As you can see, I have contributed for almost all months but not on October.😅 It is because I was working on some other projects and I was unable focus for this month. I will continue my contributions from today onwards.
