I keep hearing the same thing:
“The competition is insanely high. There are too many students fighting for too few opportunities.”
Recently, I saw something in my own college that made me think about this differently.
A company came to our campus for mass hiring. They had up to 1,000 opportunities across different roles.
Sounds like a great opportunity, right?
Now, take a guess…
How many students actually appeared for the opportunity?
Around 800 students.
And how many were finally selected?
Only 2.
Yes. Just 2 students out of around 800.
And interestingly, the students who got selected ended up with packages around 8 LPA, despite the company having a package that went up to 21 LPA for certain opportunities.
That really made me think.
The problem isn't always that there are no opportunities.
Sometimes, the bigger problem is:
Are we prepared enough to grab them?
800 people competing doesn't necessarily mean 800 equally prepared candidates.
Some are learning consistently.
Some are building projects.
Some are practicing DSA.
Some are preparing for interviews.
And some are just hoping that their degree will be enough.
So when someone says,
“Competition is too high, so what's the point?”
I'd rather think:
“If the opportunity comes tomorrow, will I be ready for it?”
Because you don't need to beat everyone.
You just need to become good enough that when your opportunity comes, you don't waste it.
Study hard. Build things. Practice. Keep improving.
The competition may be high.
But that doesn't mean the game is already lost.
